The Pac-12 Men’s & Women’s Tennis Championships return to Ojai, Calif., this week, with the respective tournaments set to determine the Pac-12 team champions and automatic qualifiers to the NCAA Tournament. Both tournaments will take place Wednesday, April 24 – Saturday, April 27. 

Tournament Details

All four days of the Men’s Championship will take place at Libbey Park. The first three days of the Women’s Championship will be held at the Weil Tennis Academy, with USC’s first-round quarterfinal matchup against the winner of Washington-Washington State also featuring play at Ojai Valley Athletic Club. The women’s championship match will take place at Libbey Park. 

The nine-team men’s field opens with a single matchup on Wednesday – No. 8 Washington vs. No. 9 Utah at 12 p.m. PT  A trio of women’s matches are on tap to open the competition on Wednesday: No. 8 Utah vs. No. 9 Colorado (9 a.m. PT), No. 7 Arizona vs. No. 10 Oregon (12 p.m. PT), and No. 6 Washington vs. No. 11 Washington State.

Pac-12 Regular Season Champions

The Pac-12 Men’s & Women’s Tennis Championships arrive on the heels of UCLA securing the women’s regular season title and Stanford and Arizona clinching co-regular season champion honors on the men’s side. 

The Bruins finished the season atop the women’s standings at 9-1 overall, clinching their third all-time regular season title with a win at crosstown rival USC on Friday, April 19. Stanford and Arizona both finished the season 7-1 in the men’s standings, with the Cardinal ultimately earning the top seed in the Pac-12 Tournament by virtue of its 4-3 team win over the Wildcats on March 30. It was the 19th regular season title for Stanford and first since 2021, while Arizona earned its third straight regular season crown. 

Pac-12 Men’s & Women’s Championship History

USC enters the 2024 Championship as the three-time defending Pac-12 Tournament champions, with the Trojans and UCLA winning every league tourney since the current format was instituted in 2012. The Bruins have won four tournament titles, earning their last crown in 2018.

Stanford has secured five of the six tournament titles – including the last two – dating back to the institution of the new team format in 2017. Cal picked up the title in 2021 after the tournament was canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19. 

Pac-12 Men’s Programs in the Rankings

Seven Pac-12 programs earned placement on the most recent ITA Top-75 national rankings: No. 11 Arizona, No. 20 Stanford, No. 22 UCLA, No. 23 Arizona State, No. 53 USC, No. 58 California, and No. 61 Oregon. 

No. 12 Murphy Cassone of Arizona State and No. 17 Nishesh Basavareddy of Stanford lead a group of 15 nationally-ranked singles on the men’s side. Arizona’s Colton Smith and Jay Friend are No. 31 in the national doubles ranks, headlining eight Pac-12 pairs in the ITA rankings. 

Pac-12 Women’s Programs in the Rankings

Nine Pac-12 programs checked on the most recent ITA Top-75 national rankings: No. 3 Stanford, No. 8 UCLA, No. 10 California, No. 11 USC, No. 26 Washington, No. 27 Arizona State, No. 41 Arizona, No. 53 Utah, and No. 64 Oregon.

Twenty singles players are nationally-ranked on the women’s side, led by No. 9 Connie Ma (Stanford), No. 25 Kimmi Hance (UCLA), and T-30 Alexandra Yepifanova (Stanford) and Emma Charney (USC). No. 14 Fangran Tian and Elise Wagle top the list of 14 nationally-ranked doubles pairs in the Pac-12.
