BERKELEY – California's Alice Jeong carded an under par round in her first collegiate tournament as the Golden Bears opened the 2014-15 season at the Colonel Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic hosted by Colorado State at the Ptarmigan Country Club in Windsor, Colo.

Jeong's opening round saw her score four birdies while finishing with a 1-under 71. Competing in her first tournament as a Golden Bear, Jeong hit under on the 1st, 9th, 15th and 16th holes in the first round to sit 12th individually after 18 holes. In the second round, Jeong added a fifth birdie and shot a 76 to finish the first two rounds with a 71-76=147 (+3) to sit 15th on the individual leaderboard.

As a team, California is 11th after 36 holes with a 293-310=603 (+27) after encountering a bit of trouble in the second round. San Diego State tops the leaderboard at 289-288=577 (+1), followed by Colorado (294-292=586, +10) and Illinois (297-298=586, +10).

Another Golden Bear making her collegiate debut was true freshman Marthe Wold of Norway, who sits 39th on the individual leaderboard with a 75-76=151 (+7). Wold also hit five birdies on the day to finish with the second-lowest score in Cal's lineup after 36 holes.

Junior Hannah Suh was the second Golden Bear to shoot at or under par in the first round after carding an even 72 in the morning. Like Jeong and Wold, Suh hit five birdies on the day, but saw her score jump in the second round after a first round in which she hit an even par on 14 holes. Suh sits 46th individually with a 72-80=152 (+8).

Senior Morgan Thompson was one of the most even Bears of the opening round by hitting par on 15 of 18 holes, but her other three holes were each bogeys as the senior carded a 75 (+3) in the opening round. She and junior Carly Childs are both tied for 58th individually with 11-over 155's after the first two rounds of play.
