Five Huskies Advance on Day Two of Rain-Shortened St. Mary?s Invite

MORAGA, Calif. – The University of Washington women's tennis team sent five on to the next rounds on day two of the St. Mary's Invite which dealt with weather delays all day shortening many of the matches.

Only singles action took place due to the weather and UW was led by second-seeded Elianne Douglas-Miron who defeated Alina Soltanici of Sacramento State, 6-3, 6-3 in the ITA Red Singles Round of 16. She will be joined in the quarterfinals by sixth-seeded Julija Lukac after the senior earned a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Samantha Polayes of Gonzaga.

In the ITA White Singles Round of 16, top-seeded freshman Miki Kobayashi continued her stellar run, knocking off Sacramento State's Ana Loaiza 6-1, 6-2. Also advancing in the white bracket was senior Riko Shimizu following her 6-2, 6-4 win over Gergana Boncheva of Pacific. Natalie Allen earned her second win of the tournament as well with an easy 6-1, 6-1 defeat over Saskia Angerer (Sacramento State) in the ITA Blue Singles Quarterfinals.

Play is scheduled to begin at 8:30 on Sunday morning with nine matches that were drowned out on Saturday followed by two rounds of doubles and two rounds of singles.
