Rain Shortens Bruin Wave Invitational Opening Day

TARZANA, Calif. – Uncharacteristic rain in Southern California shortened the first day of competition at the Bruin Wave Invitational for the California women's golf team.

California sits 53-over midway through the second round at the par-72 El Caballero Country Club Course that was rained on throughout the night and during today's opening rounds.

Washington is the team leader at 13-over before the completion of the second round.

Lucia Gutierrez leads the Bears at 7-over after 16 holes in the second round. Gutierrez shot a 1-over 73 in the first round, but as the rain began to pour and scores crept up, she finished at 19th on the individual leaderboard with two holes remaining in the second round.

Hannah Suh sits 48th while Marthe Wold and Carly Childs are tied for 54th. Jo Ee Kok rounds out the California effort at 76th.

The Bears continue the final round of competition Tuesday.
