Bears Split A Pair Of Matches At Molten Classic

BERKELEY – The Cal volleyball team split a pair of matches on the final day of the Molten Classic on Saturday, sweeping Eastern Washington before falling to Seattle in three sets.

The Bears (2-1) defeated the Eagles 25-22, 25-17, 25-23 in their morning match before falling to the Redhawks, 25-18, 25-21, 25-19.

Middle blockers Lara Vukasovic and Jenelle Jordan excelled for the Bears and each was named to the Molten Classic All-Tournament Team. Vukasovic had 10 kills and two blocks during the win over Eastern Washington while Jordan registered seven kills and five blocks. Freshman Belen Castillo added nine kills and two blocks and junior libero Maddy Kerr totaled 20 digs.

Jordan had seven kills and four blocks against Seattle while Vukasovic had four kills and seven blocks.

The Bears will take their first road trip of the season next weekend when they travel to the Kansas State Invitational. Cal will face the host Wildcats along with UNLV and Wisconsin-Green Bay.
