SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – No. 13 California held Cal Poly to three shots on goal in 110 minutes of play as the Bears and Mustangs played to a 0-0 draw Sunday afternoon at Alex G. Spanos Stadium.
Sophomore Emily Boyd registered the shutout – her fourth consecutive – as California (6-1-2) runs its unbeaten streak to eight games. Cal Poly (4-2-3) picked up six saves in the contest.
It was a hot day in San Luis Obispo with temperatures reaching 97 degrees on the pitch at kickoff, but the Bears asserted themselves offensively throughout the 110 minutes, taking a 22-11 advantage in shots while earning 10 corner kicks compared to two for the home side.
The best chance of the game for either team would come in the 102nd minute when left back Indigo Gibson knocked a shot off the crossbar that would have ended the game.
The Mustangs, who had one shot on goal in regulation, didn't find their second and third attempts on frame until the final five minutes of the match with Boyd making the saves in the 105th and 108th minutes.
California opens conference play next Sunday with a trip at Colorado on the Pac-12 Networks.
Head Coach Neil McGuire's Take
"We are very disappointed with this result. We dominated in every category except scoring, but we needed to be sharper in front of goal."
"The girls gave an incredible effort throughout the entire match."
"It is not an easy place to play, and Cal Poly are a committed and well-organized defensive team."
