TULSA, Okla. - Denise Starr and Maegan Manasse will look to add their names to the pantheon of NCAA doubles champions at California when they play in Monday's doubles final at the University of Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center. The fourth-seeded/ranked Golden Bear juniors punched their ticket to tomorrow's championship when they outlasted the top-seeded/second-ranked Whitney Kay and Haley Carter, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0(7), in Sunday's semifinals.

The Bears will play Florida's Brooke Austin and Kourtney Keegan in Monday's final, which is set for 2 p.m. CT. Fans who can't attend the match in Tulsa can watch the final live via the NCAA.com broadcast, which will include announcers and multiple cameras.

“It was a fantastic match today,” Cal head coach Amanda Augustus said. “It was a very high level of tennis. We started off the year facing Carter and kay in the final of the All-America Championships. They're one of the top teams in the country. I'm excited to see Denise and Maegan advance to the NCAA championship tomorrow. It's always the goal on the first day of the season to play on the last day of the season. I'm glad to see Cal represented in another championship final."

Augustus referred to the last major final that Starr and Manasse played in, on Oct. 11 in Pacific Palisades, California. The Bears defeated UNC's Carter and Kay, 6-1, 6-4, in the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships

“It's been a great week," Augustus added. "We've handled and worked our way through a lot of matches, and we're excited to get back on the court tomorrow and hopefully work our way through one more.”

On Feb. 26, Starr and Manasse played Keegan and Austin in Cal's regular-season dual match against the Gators in Berkeley. Cal's top doubles team lost to its counterparts, 6-4, though the Bears went on to beat previously unbeaten Florida, 4-3, in the overall match.

This is the second straight NCAA doubles final to include Golden Bears, as current senior Klara Fabikova and current volunteer assistant coach Zsofi Susanyi played for the championship last year.

Cal has a rich doubles history, as the Bears – starting with Augustus – have won five NCAA doubles championships. In her playing days at Cal, Augustus and Amy Jensen become the first duo to win back-to-back NCAA doubles titles in 1998 and 1999. That '98 championship was Cal's first NCAA individual title of any kind. This spring, Augustus and Jensen also earned distinction as the Pac-12 Doubles Team of the Century.
