WINDERMERE, Fla. – California (284, -4) is tied for second place after the first day of its title defense at the prestigious Tavistock Collegiate Invitational at the par-72, 7544-yard Isleworth Country Club. Vanderbilt (276, -12) will begin Monday's second round with an eight-shot advantage over the Golden Bears and Auburn (284, -4). Ten teams are at par or better after 18 holes.

KK Limbhasut led the way for the Bears in Sunday's opening round with a bogeyless five-under par 67 and is tied for third three strokes behind first-round leader Will Gordon of Vanderbilt after his eight-under par round of 64. Limbhasut had birdies on five of his final 14 holes on the par-three fifth, a trio of par-fours (9, 12, 16) and the par-five 13th. He also saved par on the par-three 15th when he missed the green but hit his bunker shot to within eight feet and made a downhill putt.

"I am very satisfied with how I played today," Limbhasut said. "I was able to save par when I missed greens and took advantage of birdie opportunities when I had them."

"KK's round today was very impressive," Alex and Marie Shipman Director of Men's Golf Walter Chun said. "Going bogey-free at a championship golf course like Isleworth is a memorable performance. KK has put a lot of work into his game and I'm proud to see the fruits of his labor taking form. I also have to give [assistant] coach [Eric] Mina credit. He walked with KK the whole round today and the two of them just teamed up really well."

Collin Morikawa is tied for 11th three shots behind Limbhasut and six in back of Gordon after a two-under par 70. Morikawa shot three-under par on the back nine with four birdies over a six-hole stretch on the par-four 12th, 14th and 16th as well as the par-five 17th before ending his round with a bogey on the par-four 18th. Morikawa started his one-over par front nine with a birdie on the par-four first but had bogeys on the par-four fourth and ninth.

Sebastian Crampton gives Cal three players in the top 15 after 18 holes. Crampton is one shot behind Morikawa in a tie for 15th after his opening-round one-under par 71. Crampton played the par-five seventh and par-four eighth holes in a combined three-under par with an eagle and birdie, respectively, with his eagle the only one by a Cal player Sunday. His two bogeys came on the par-three second and par-four 16th.

Joseph Chun (76, +4) and Kaiwen Liu (81, +9) were also in the lineup for the Bears and are tied for 54th and in sole possession of 74th, respectively. Chun had a pair of birdies but also four bogeys and a double bogey. Liu was birdieless with six bogeys and a triple bogey.

"Even with KK's stellar round, and Collin and Sebastian shooting under-par today, we still find ourselves well behind Vanderbilt," Chun said. "We'll need a great performance from all five players tomorrow to cut into Vanderbilt's lead, but we have fire very accomplished golfers so let's see what we can do tomorrow."

"The team played solid today, but we need to make a move to catch Vanderbilt," Limbhasut added. "They played unbelievable golf today."

Cal, Vanderbilt and Auburn will play in the final group of teams off the first tee in second-round action Tuesday. The first of five threesomes with players from the top three teams after 18 holes are scheduled to tee off at 9:40 am ET/6:40 am PT.
