SEATTLE - Junior Nick Roberts delivered a go-ahead, two-run double in the ninth inning to highlight a day of scrimmaging between Washington and Oregon at Safeco Field on Saturday.

For many players with local ties – like Roberts from nearby Silverdale, Wash., – the chance to play on the home field of the Seattle Mariners was a special occasion, and the teams took full advantage of the opportunity. The Huskies and Ducks scrimmaged for nine innings, followed by practicing situational baseball for three more innings in front of a crowd of pro scouts.

The Diamond Dawgs scored a run in the eighth and three more in the ninth to complete a regulation rally and outscore the Ducks, 6-5, though the first nine frames of the scrimmage. Oregon returned the favor during the final three innings of simulated situations that followed, outscoring UW.

A trio of newcomers set the table for Roberts' late heroics. Junior second baseman Ricky Muzzy singled to start the ninth, followed by an infield hit by freshman catcher Colton Cassinelli. Freshman Albert Hsaio drove in the first run of the inning with a RBI single and Roberts put an exclamation point on the rally by doubling past Oregon's center fielder to score two runs.

Sophomore centerfielder Braiden Ward and junior shortstop Ramon Bramasco each went 1-for-3 with a run scored. Senior designated hitter Joe Wainhouse collected a hit and drew a walk in three plate appearances, while senior left fielder Mason Cerrillo picked up a RBI on a sacrifice fly.

Six Husky pitchers combined to strike out 13 Ducks on the day. Junior righty Jordan Jones, and sophomores Josh Burgmann and Jack DeCooman threw two innings apiece, while Chris Micheles, Leo Nierenberg and Jack Enger each pitched a scoreless inning of relief.

Enger struck out the side in the ninth inning and earned the win in the scorebook thanks to the UW offense's late rally.
