BERKELEY – Redshirt senior Garrett Corcoran and both the men's and women's cross country teams earned honors from the USTFCCCA on Thursday.

Corcoran was named a USTFCCCCA All-Academic thanks to his work in the classroom and on the course this past fall. Corcoran, who graduated last spring with a degree in mechanical engineering, is currently in Cal's graduate program for mechanical engineering. This is the second consecutive year that Corcoran has been a USTFCCCA All-Academic recipient.

On the course, Corcoran completed one of Cal's all-time standout cross country careers this fall as he raced at the NCAA Championship all four straight years. He became the only person to do that in Cal cross country history. Corcoran qualified for nationals as an individual out of one of the toughest regions as he took sixth place while running a career-best 10k time.

In order to qualify for the honor, athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and finish in the top-25 (or 10 percent) at regionals or as an All-American in the national meet.

In addition to Corcoran, both the men's and women's teams were honored for their work in the classroom. The men's team carried a GPA of 3.34 while the women posted a mark of 3.23 as both teams earned USTFCCCA All-Academic recognition. The men earned the honor for the second straight year.
