Bears Foursome Named to U.S. Collegiate National Team
BERKELEY – In an offseason dedicated to rebuilding and individual development, California quartet
Bailee Huizenga,
Lauren Forte,
Emma Smith and
Preslie Anderson were named to the 28-player U.S. Collegiate National Team, USA Volleyball announced Monday.

Huizenga, a 2018 captain for the Golden Bears, was 1-of-4 opposites to make the roster, while All-Pac-12 honorees Anderson and Forte were among the eight middles selected. Smith, who matched her career-high 22 digs against Arizona, was one of the four liberoes named.

Cal's four selections is tied with Kansas State for the most of any program and leads the Pac-12.

"I am truly excited for our players to be recognized for their successful tryout process and asked to be a part of Collegiate National Team this summer," said head coach
Sam Crosson. "It is an honor to have our players be a part of the USA Volleyball program and I know they are looking forward to the experience, training opportunities, and competition that awaits them."

In 2018, Anderson and Forte established themselves as a middle blocking tandem, both finishing in the top-10 in conference in hitting percentage with Anderson's .365 ranked fourth in the league and Forte's .321 enough for 10th best.

Forte was a defensive fortress for the Bears as their lead blocker and collected 1.23 blocks per set which is fourth-best in the Pac-12. Forte also picked up the Bears' lone in-season award as the Pac-12 Freshman of the week on Oct. 22 after Cal's trip to Oregon where she combined for a .500 attacking percentage, recording 13 kills and 9.0 total blocks, committing just three errors against Oregon and Oregon State.

Huizenga also had a stellar season contributing 318.0 points for the Bears, the second most on the team. She also finished her junior campaign a .250 attack percentage in 31 matches played, including 18 starts.

Smith recorded 233 digs last season and was integral late in the year for the Cal.

The U.S. squad will train June 23-29 at the American Sports Centers in Anaheim, the official host city for the U.S. Women's and Men's National Volleyball Teams. The program will hold a public Red-Blue scrimmage on June 28 in the vicinity of Anaheim (site and time TBA).
