Women's Beach Volleyball | April 16, 2019

SAN FRANCISCO – The USC beach volleyball pair of senior Terese Cannon (Pittsford, N.Y.) and sophomore Sammy Slater (Ventura, Calif.) was chosen as the Pac-12 Pair of the Week for the week of April 8-14, the conference announced on Tuesday, April 16.
 
It is the fourth time a Trojan pair has won the award this spring and marks the 17th time that a USC duo has received the conference's Pair of the Week honor. While the award is a first-career milestone for Slater, it is Cannon's third. She previously won Pair of the Week with Nicolette Martin (2017) and was chosen once with Abril Bustamante (2018).
 
Cannon and Slater won their fourth straight match and helped take the Women of Troy to their sixth straight dual victory. This week, the duo defeated Zoi Konstantopoulou and Nicci Reinking of No. 9-ranked Long Beach State in a three-setter, 19-21, 22-20, 15-9; and then served up the clinching point with a 21-17, 21-16 victory against Gigi Hernandez and Deahna Kraft of No. 5 Pepperdine. The Trojans swept LBSU and claimed a 4-1 win over the Waves on home sand.
 
The two Women of Troy have played every match together this season and are 19-7 overall. They also improved to 45-14 all-time, which ranks sixth in school history among Trojan pairs.
 
The No. 2-ranked Trojans (22-4) conclude the regular season with a pair of home duals this week. USC hosts No. 15 Grand Canyon (19-8) at 1 p.m. PT on Thursday, April 18, and then faces No. 7 Cal Poly (19-8) at 3 p.m. at Merle Norman Stadium. Between the two duals, the program will honor the careers of its three seniors: Bustamante, Cannon, and Alexandra Poletto.
