Bears Close Regular Season At Redwood Shores

Cal Takes On Stanford Saturday Morning In The Big Row

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. -- After a productive weekend of racing in the Pacific Northwest, the Cal men's rowing team returns to the Bay Area for its final dual race of the regular season, taking on Stanford on Saturday morning at Redwood Shores. The 86th edition of the "Big Row" begins at 9:45 a.m. PT with a fours race between two Golden Bear boats, followed by the third varsity eights racing at 10:00 a.m. The second varsity eight will race at 10:15 a.m. and the varsity eights will race at 10:30 a.m. Cal has won the Schwabacher Cup each of the last five seasons and leads the varsity eight series, 66-19.

As has become tradition, Saturday's matchup between the Golden Bears and Cardinal also marks an opportunity for both schools to support lung cancer research, competing for "Team Jill", in remembrance of former Cal women's rowing coxswain Jill Costello, who passed away in 2010.

Fans and supporters unable to make it to Redwood Shores can watch Saturday's racing through the Pac-12 Live Stream.

Following the Big Row, the Bears turn their full attention to the championship season, with the Pac-12 Championships and IRA National Championship Regatta remaining on the schedule. The 2019 Pac-12 Rowing Championships will be held at Lake Natoma on Sunday, May 19.
