BOSTON – The Intercollegiate Rowing Association announced the field for its championship regatta today. Washington, which was seeded No. 2 in the varsity eight, will send first, second and third varsity eights, as well as a varsity four, back to Lake Natoma to compete in the 117th annual IRA championship regatta May 31-June 2.

Last Sunday, the Huskies won all five men's races at the Pac-12 Championships, which were also held on Lake Natoma, located just outside of Sacramento in Gold River, Calif. Lake Natoma previously served as the IRA site in 2009, 2013 and 2017. The UW won the national championship in both 2009 and 2013 and finished a very close second in 2017.

Washington will row in the following heats on the first day of the regatta, Friday, May 31:

8:30 a.m. PT – Varsity Eight, heat two
lanes 1-6: UW, Northeastern, Cornell, Columbia, Oregon State, UC San Diego

9:20 a.m. PT – Second Varsity Eight, heat one
lanes 1-5: UW, Northeastern, Boston U., Wisconsin, Drexel

10:10 a.m. PT – Third Varsity Eight, heat one
lanes 1-5: UW, Dartmouth, Northeastern, Stanford, Hobart

10:50 a.m. PT – Varsity Four, heat one
lanes 1-5: Wisconsin, Oklahoma City, Harvard, Washington, Holy Cross

Semifinals will be held on the morning of Saturday, June 1, and the finals will follow on Sunday, June 2. See the link at the top right for the full schedule.

Last year at Mercer Lake in New Jersey, Washington won national titles in the second and third varsity eights and earned their 15th Ten Eyck Trophy as the overall points winner, but came in second in the varsity eight grand final. In men's collegiate rowing, the varsity eight winner is considered the national champion (rather than the overall points winner). The grand final for the varsity four was canceled in 2018, due to poor conditions.

The Huskies have won the Ten Eyck 11 times in the last 12 years, and 15 times in all. The Huskies have also won the varsity eight title 18 times, the second varsity eight on 29 occasions, the varsity four 11 times, and the Stewards Cup (awarded to the top freshman eight through 2016; now given to the 3V8+ winner) 27 times.
