Volleyball set for Oregon road trip; Cougs to play at OSU Friday night

PULLMAN, Wash. -- Washington State volleyball (16-7, 8-4 Pac-12) will be looking for a season sweep over Oregon State (7-15, 2-10) Friday night as they hit the road for the second matchup of the year against the Beavers.  Friday's match is slated for a 6:04 p.m. first serve at the Gill Coliseum where the Cougars have won the last four meetings as a part of nine-straight victories overall against Oregon State.

WSU went 3-1 over a four-match home stretch the past two weekends and swept Oregon State, 25-14, 25-21, 25-19, back on Oct. 9 which was the fourth sweep in a row for the Cougars in the all-time series vs OSU.

WSU Quick Notes:
>> After the 2-0 home weekend against the Oregon schools last month, WSU is now 16-3 against Pac-12 northwest schools (Oregon, Oregon State and Washington) since 2019.
>> Washington State has won six of the last even matchups with OSU in Corvallis dating back to 2015.
>> WSU is on a four-match winning streak on the road at OSU with back-to-back sweeps in the Gill Coliseum going into Friday's match.
>> Washington State is 4-5 in road matches so far this season and has more kills (414-396), blocks (118-106), and digs (387-376) than its opponents in the first nine true road contests of the season.
>> Pia Timmer moved into a tie for 10th all-time in career kills (1,118) in Sunday's sweep over Cal.
>> Magda Jehlarova is 11th in the NCAA and second in the Pac-12 in blocks per set (1.43).  She is first in the Pac-12 with 119 total blocks which also ranks 15th in the NCAA.
>> Karly Basham is the team's leader with 33 aces and reeled off four straight aces in the opening set against Cal on Sunday.  Basham finished Sunday with five total aces and earlier this season, tied a WSU four-set match record with seven aces in a win over Belmont.
>> The Cougs rank No. 22 in the nation and fifth in the Pac-12 at .268 hitting so far this season.
>> Three of the Cougars' four road wins have been sweeps with a 3-0 win at Utah in their last road match back on Oct. 16.
>> WSU has split each of its first three Pac-12 road trips with wins at USC (9/24), at Cal  (9/30) and at Utah (10/16).
>> Washington State posted its best team hitting percentage (.388) during conference play in Sunday's sweep over Cal.
>> The Cougs' nine aces as a team on Sunday was their best showing from the service line since posting 10 aces in a sweep over Oregon State.
>> Pia Timmer surpassed the 1,000 career kill milestone earlier this season (Sept. 30 at Cal) and has a pair of 20-kill performances this year while fellow hitter Laura Jansen has tallied three double doubles on the season.
>> Setter Argentina Ung has tallied double-digit digs in five of her last six matches and eight total matches this season.  She finished with three kills and 27 assists in the Cougs' first matchup against Oregon State (10/9).
Oregon State Notes
>> The Cougars are 51-42 all-time against Oregon State and have won eight straight matches over the Beavers dating back to 2018.
>> WSU has not dropped a set to OSU since the first of two road matches in Corvallis during the Spring 2021 season that was played amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
>> Washington State swept OSU, 25-14, 25-21, 25-19, back on Oct. 9 with the help of 10 aces as a team and a dominating presence at the net.
>> Pia Timmer (11), Laura Jansen (10) and Katy Ryan (10) each finished with double digit kills in the first matchup this season against OSU and setter Argentina Ung led the team with seven digs on the afternoon.
>> Washington State has won six of the last even matchups with OSU in Corvallis dating back to 2015. WSU is on a four-match winning streak on the road at OSU with back-to-back sweeps in the Gill Coliseum going into Friday's match.
>> The Beavers have dropped five of six matches since last month's trip to Pullman and were swept on the road at the Arizona schools last week.
>> OSU fell in five sets to Arizona on Sunday, losing 15-10 in the fifth despite 60 kills (60-25-151, .232) as a team and 11 blocks on the afternoon.

Up Next:
The Cougars travel to take on 16th-ranked Oregon on Sunday beginning at noon.  Washington State will embark on its final road trip of the 2022 regular season next weekend as it heads to Arizona to play Arizona State on Fri., Nov. 11, at 6 p.m. followed by Arizona on Sun., Nov. 13, beginning at 10 a.m.
