Beavs at 11th with Pair in Semis at Cliff Keen Invite

LAS VEGAS – Following the first day of action from the Cliff Keen Invitational in Las Vegas, the Oregon State wrestling team is in 11th place in a competitive field.

Brandon Kaylor (125) and Tanner Harvey (197) secured spots in their respective semifinals and sit just two wins away from titles.

No. 10 and the competition's third seeded Kaylor, had a 3-0 day in the invite and is set for the event's semifinals. The three wins included a come-from-behind win in sudden victory, 6-4, over second-seeded and 16th-ranked Eddie Ventresca of Virginia Tech.  

Seeded fifth in the tournament and an honorable mention from Intermat, Harvey upset 18th-ranked Kordell Norfleet (Arizona State) in the quarterfinal with a 5-2 margin and secured the win with a takedown in the late stages of the bout. His day started with a 4-2 decision in the first round and then a 20-5 win by technical fall in the round of 16.

Four – Jason Shaner (133), Matthew Olguin (165), Aaron "Mateo" Olmos (174) and Trey Munoz (184) – eye strong finishes from the consolidation of four spots on the bracket tomorrow.

Oregon State will conclude action tomorrow morning, with competition starting at 10 a.m.
