Women's Volleyball Pac-12 Conference

Stanford earns No. 2 national seed as 5 Pac-12 women's volleyball teams selected to 2023 NCAA Tournament

2023 NCAA Women's Volleyball Bracket

Five Pac-12 women's volleyball teams earned bids, highlighted by the Cardinal being selected as the No. 2 overall national seed, to the 2023 NCAA Division I Womens Volleyball Championship as the 64-team field was announced by the NCAA Division I Womens Volleyball committee on Sunday.

Back-to-back Pac-12 champion Stanford, along with league runner-up Oregon and Washington State, were tabbed as the top-16 seeds overall and will all host matches next weekend. The Cardinal, the No. 1 seed in their region and a top-four national seed for a second straight year, will have an opportunity to play in the Super Regional rounds at home if they can advance beyond Saturday. The Ducks are the No. 2 seed in the Wisconsin Region and will host first and second round matches in Eugene on Thursday and Friday, while Washington State is the No. 4 seed in the Pittsburgh Regional and will play its first and second round matches in Pullman on Friday and Saturday.

Joining the Cardinal, Ducks and Cougars in the field are Arizona State and USC, with the Sun Devils seeded No. 5 in the Stanford Region and the Trojans seeded No. 8 the Pittsburgh Region. ASU is making its first tournament appearance since 2015, while the other four are all repeat selections from last year.

After a process change prior the 2022 NCAA Tournament, the committee, instead of seeding just the top 16 teams, now seed the top 32 teams on a national basis across eight seed lines. The top 16 seeds will host a regional and the top four national seeds will host a super if given the opportunity.

First- and second-round matches will be played November 30- December 3 at 16 campus sites.  Teams winning both matches will continue to regional play December 7 & 9. Regionals for the NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship will be held at four non-predetermined campus sites, which will be announced on December 4. At each site, four teams will compete in single-elimination regional semifinal competition.

The regional winners will advance to the national semifinals and championship final hosted by the University of South Florida, in conjunction with the Tampa Bay Sports Commission December 14&17 at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Fla. The national semifinal matches will broadcast on ESPN, and the championship match will broadcast on ABC.

The five participants will now look to add to the Conference's success in NCAA postseason play:

  • Pac-12 institutions have won 17 of the 42 all-time NCAA championships in womens volleyball, four more than the next closest conference (Big Ten), and four of the past 12.
  • Pac-12 teams have compiled a 504-274 (.648) record in NCAA play. Toss out the 48 postseason matches between Conference teams and the leagues NCAA Tournament record against non-conference opponents stands at 447-220 (.670). Seven different Pac-12 programs have made NCAA semifinal appearances since 2001 and 14 of the past 22 championship matches have included at least one Pac-12 program.
  • A Pac-12 team has been one of the final four teams in all but five years of the NCAA Tournament (1993, 1998, 2009, 2015, 2021, 2022) and at least one Pac-12 team has played in 27 of the 42 NCAA title matches all-time, the most of any league.
