The Oregon State men’s basketball team opens its regular season on Sunday, Nov. 10 against Coppin State at 5 p.m. at Gill Coliseum. The Beavers will host a pair of exhibition games before the season opener -- on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. vs. Corban and Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. vs. Concordia.
To help preview the 113th season in Oregon State basketball history, we sat down for interviews with the four freshmen. Next up is Cheikh N’diaye, a 7-foot center from Dakar, Senegal. To view the video, either click the image above or the link to the right.
Cheikh N’diaye will be just the 10th 7-footer to play basketball for Oregon State. He is long (obviously) and a little raw on the offensive end, but he is expected to play as a true freshman as a backup center to Angus Brandt and Daniel Gomis.
N’diaye was ranked the 24th best center in the nation by ESPN.com after averaging 13.3 points, 11.7 rebounds and 4.5 blocked shots per game as a senior at Army-Navy Academy in Carlsbad, Calif., which earned him player of the year honors.
Whether N’diaye will become an All-American like former Beaver 7-footers Mel Counts and Swede Halbrook waits to be seen. But he will provide size and an intimidating presence in the middle that Oregon State fans haven’t seen in a very long time.
