Nov 7, 2013

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - OREGON STATE’s Tayla Woods and USC’s Natalie Hagglund represented Pac-12 volleyball on the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District 8 First Team, as announced on Thursday. The two student-athletes are two of seven honorees on the all-district team.

Woods earned her third-career academic honor, receiving first-team Pac-12 All-Academic honors in 2011 and second-team in 2012. She is the first Oregon State player to earn academic all-district honors since 2003 and to earn first-team all-district honors since 2001. She has played in 22 of the team’s 23 matches so far this season and is currently averaging 9.98 assists, 2.26 digs and 0.47 blocks per set this season.

Hagglund, a senior libero for the Trojans, earned her second-straight Academic All-District honor after receiving the accolade last year along with being named third-team Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-American and Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention. She is the Trojans’ career leader in digs with 2,095 and counting, which ranks fifth in Pac-12 history. She is currently averaging 5.25 digs per set with 425 total on the year as well as 71 assists.

The teams are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) to recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
