Cats Close Season with 3-0 Setback to No. 9 San Diego at NCAAs

In a season full of sweeps, it seemed only fitting that the Arizona women’s volleyball team’s season would end in one. The Wildcats struggled to contain No. 9 seed San Diego’s offense, as the Toreros hit .377 in the 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-22) win on Saturday in the second round of the NCAA tournament. Arizona (21-13) was paced by Madi Kingdon, who tallied a match-high 15 kills.

Bears Season Ends With Loss To Wisconsin

Allowing an opponent to hit .404 in never a recipe for success, especially not in the NCAA tournament. The Cal women’s volleyball team struggled to stop Wisconsin’s lethal offense on Saturday, as the Bears were swept (25-19, 25-18, 25-21) by the 12th-seeded Badgers at the UW Field House. Cal (18-13) was led by 12 kills from Christina Higgins, while Adrienne Gehan added eight kills to end her Cal career.

Buffs Give No. 10 Minnesota Tough Test, Fall In 5

Down to sets to none in the second round of the NCAA women’s volleyball tournament, Colorado could have thrown in the towel on Saturday. Instead, the Buffs bounced back to win the next two sets. Alas, the comeback fell short, as Colorado fell to No. 10 Minnesota, 3-2 (25-20, 25-18, 17-25, 21-25, 15-9), at the Sports Pavilion in Minneapolis.    The Buffs end their best season since 2006 with an 18-14 record.

Oregon’s Season Ends at No. 8-seed Nebraska

Nebraska used 13 blocks to slow the Oregon women’s volleyball team down on Saturday in the NCAA tournament second round. The Ducks ended their season with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-22) defeat at the hands of the eight-seeded Huskers in Lincoln, Neb. Oregon (20-12) ran out of gas after reaching the 20-win mark for the third straight year.

Utah Falls in Second Round of NCAA Tournament at Penn State

While it was not the same core that won four straight NCAA titles from 2007-10, this iteration of Penn State women’s volleyball is still awfully good. The Nittany Lions swept Utah, 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-11) Saturday in the tournament’s second round. Despite an advantage in blocks, the Utes (21-13) failed to win a set against Penn State in University Park, Pa.

Huskies Rally Past LSU Into Round Of 16

Washington had lost just twice during the regular season, but it looked like No. 3 was right around the corner after the Huskies dropped the first set of their NCAA tournament second round matchup with LSU on Saturday. No matter, No. 5 Washington came back with authority, claiming the next three frames to defeat the Tigers, 3-1 (17-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-19) and advance to the Sweet Sixteen. The Huskies (28-2) shut down LSU’s offense to the tune of a .131 hitting percentage.
