NCAA women's team tennis tournament: All four Pac-12 teams advance

It was a successful day for the Pac-12. All conference teams participating in the NCAA women's team tournament were victorious and will subsequently play in the third round in Athens, Georgia later this week.

USC

As the #16 seeded team, the USC Trojans had the great opportunity to host an NCAA tournament regional. They took advantage of this and defeated the visiting (from afar) Michigan Wolverines, 4-2, and will advance to the third round in Georgia. Not so close to home but a step closer to a national championship. As it were, they took a step in the Athens direction:

California

The sixth seeded Golden Bears, playing at home, made short order of unseeded Pepperdine. Cal advances with a 4-0 win and while they can’t necessarily dodge a Pac-12 rival (they’ll play Stanford next) they did manage to dodge themselves. Or, perhaps better said, dodge WATER BALOONS:

Stanford

As mentioned, Stanford will face their Bay Area rival, Cal, in the NCAA’s third round in Athens, Georgia. They earned that matchup by eliminating Long Beach State from the big dance. Of course, advancing in this tournament is nothing new to the Cardinal:

Title defenses are never easy, but it certainly doesn’t hurt that they’ve already defeated their third round opponent, Cal (worth noting, Stanford also lost to this opponent).

UCLA

Also advancing to the third round is UCLA’s very solid squad. The fifth seeded Bruins swept Mississippi out of the competition, 4-0, and will next face #12 Miami on March 15th in Athens. They are well aware of their next stop:

These two squads squared off in 2013 and UCLA walked away victorious, 4-2.
