Jul 25, 2014

BAKU, Azerbaijan – Former Oregon volleyball standout Haley Jacob signed a three-season contract with SuperLeague power Rabita Baku, which won the bronze medal at the 2013-14 CEV Champions League last season, the top competition for European volleyball clubs.

Jacob, 23, is in her second year as a professional, previously playing with TSV Dudingen of the Swiss League, helping the team to a fifth-place finish in the European Challenge Cup qualification, the highest in club history.

“We are very glad to sign one of the best athletes and liberos from US college, Haley Jacob, for 3 years,” said Ilgar Azero, Sports Director and Manager of Rabita Baku. “We really think that Haley with her team spirit, character and great defensive skills will add a lot of quality to the back line of Rabita Baku with such superstars like Brenda Castillo (ex-Dominican National Team Libero). We believe this duo will do a great job together.”

Jacob was part of Oregon’s run to the NCAA Championship match in 2012 and was named All-Pac-12 honorable mention as a senior in 2012. She ranks second in the Oregon career record book in digs and digs/set.

“The road to this point has been an awesome one,” Jacob said. “I was blessed to get the opportunity to play at the University of Oregon where I was able to work with great teammates and an amazing coaching staff. There I was able to really build an understanding for the game and compete. My expectations for Rabita (BAKU) are simple I want to work hard, get better and help the team in any way possible. Oh, and winning wouldn't be too bad either.”
