Washington's Shaq Thompson returns fumble for 100-yard touchdown

Oct 11, 2014

Cal was inches – no, millimeters – from jumping out to an early lead over Washington Saturday in Berkeley when Jared Goff lost control of the ball. It fell into the arms of the worst person it could have for the Bears: Shaq Thompson, who promptly returned the fumble 100 yards for a touchdown.

Thompson has already returned a handful of fumbles for touchdowns in 2014, but this lengthy return against Cal Saturday on Pac-12 Networks may be his most impressive yet, taking the ball from end zone to end zone early in the first quarter to put Washington ahead 7-0.

A pure playmaker, Thompson leads the Huskies in touchdowns with five already for 2014, four coming on defense and one coming on offense as a running back. Even though he sees carries on offense from time to time, Thompson doesn’t need to be on offense to get his hands on the ball, as he came into Saturday’s game leading the Pac-12 in forced fumbles, fumble recoveries and defensive touchdowns.
