Washington linebacker Shaq Thompson declared for the NFL draft on Monday. ESPN projects him as a first-round pick.

While we’re up there, Washington State defensive lineman Xavier Cooper is entering the NFL draft, forgoing his senior year. This was announced over the weekend, but Ernie Kent and Co. kinda stole the headlines Sunday afternoon in Haas.

David Lombardi writes that keeping Lance Anderson and Shannon Turley are huge victories for Stanford football, and in particular, head coach David Shaw. The defensive coordinator (Anderson) and strength coach (Turley) were hotly pursued by Jim Harbaugh at Michigan.

ESPN and others are reporting that Cal football assistant head coach Rob Likens will be the next offensive coordinator at Kansas.

The Salt Lake Tribune points out that Utah men’s basketball is projected as a 3-seed in the latest bracketology by ESPN and CBS. Still two months left ‘til March Madness, but that’s never a bad sign.

Arizona State women’s basketball is doing some serious work this season, and the 18^th-ranked Sun Devils just completed a perfect conference-opening homestand with a 78-64 win over Washington State (Pac-12 Networks recap). The Sun Devils are now 13-1 on the season.

Meanwhile, the Arizona women’s team is 0-2 after losing to Washington 79-69, a game which the Wildcats couldn’t crawl out of an early hole, writes Zack Rosenblatt. No shame in losing to the Dawgs, though.

Scott Rueck’s Oregon State women’s basketball squad got its first LA road sweep in 14 years after Sydney Wiese led Oregon State to a 76-66 win at USC. The sophomore guard scored 19 points and dished out four assists in the victory.

Colorado football coach Mike MacIntyre is working to fill out his coaching staff, pens Kyle Ringo. Mac needs a new defensive coordinator and defensive ends coach after Kent Baer (DC) and Andy LaRussa (DEs) left for UNLV.
