Utah's Kyle Whittingham: QB Kendal Thompson to miss spring ball

Feb 4, 2015

The 2015 National Signing Day frenzy took over the college football landscape on Wednesday, but Utah coach Kyle Whittingham also issued some news on his team's quarterback situation during his press conference with reporters.

Whittingham said Kendal Thompson, who split snaps under center with Tyler Wilson this past season for Utah, is expected to return from his knee injury by the summer. Thompson hurt his knee in a Nov. 8 contest against Oregon.

"He won't be in spring ball, we know that," Whittingham said. "But shortly thereafter, we're hoping. The summer play development starts on June 1, and we're hoping he's full-go and cleared for that."

Both quarterbacks will enter their senior seasons this fall, so it will be interesting to see if the mobile Thompson can get healthy enough to compete with Wilson for the starting gig once fall camp begins.
