Oregon’s Alleyne Named Player of the Week

UCLA’s Canada Selected Freshman of the Week

SAN FRANCISCO - OREGON’s Jillian Alleyne was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week, while UCLA’s Jordin Canada was tabbed the Freshman of the Week, as announced by the Conference on Monday.

Alleyne averaged 27.5 points and 14.0 rebounds over the last two games while shooting .636 percent from the field (21-of-33) and .765 percent at the line (13-of-17). The junior led the Ducks to their first win over Stanford since 2004 with 22 points and 12 rebounds in Sunday’s 62-55 victory over the No. 19 ranked Cardinal. Alleyne has an NCAA-best 27 double-doubles this season and posted a season-best 33 points and 16 rebounds in the Ducks’ 74-59 loss to No. 24 Cal last week. Alleyne is averaging 18.4 points and is second in the nation with 15.1 rebounds per game this season. Alleyne is 36 rebounds away from matching Bev Smith’s UO record of 1,326 career boards.

UCLA guard Jordin Canada (Los Angeles, Calif.) earns Freshman of the Week honors after scoring 10 points and recording seven assists, one rebound and one steal in the Bruins 74-69 win at Washington State. She then had 11 points, four rebounds and five assists in the 74-61 loss at Washington. In the two games the freshman averaged 10.5 points, 6.0 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game.

A player of the week has been selected every week since 1986-87, the first year the Conference sponsored women’s sports. A freshman of the week was first selected in 2012-13.
