Another Long Round of Play at NCAAs

TUCSON, Ariz. Round two at NCAA Championships began at approx. 2 p.m. ET on Saturday for Arizona women's golf and finished at 9 a.m. ET on Sunday after play was suspended at approx. 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Wildcats finished the second round at +23 with a 311. Joined with a 300 (+12) from round one, UA sits in a tie for seventh place with a combined score of 611.

“This is a very difficult golf course but the one thing that was more difficult today for us was playing in the afternoon,” head coach Laura Ianello said Saturday afternoon. “The greens were a lot harder. These holes are playing very long so you have to bring your long irons in and your hybrids. The greens weren't very receptive today. We had a lot of good shots onto the green but were penalized by some tough up and downs which caused more bogies for us than we're used to.”

“You can see how difficult the course is by the team scores. Not just ours but every team. The team that is the most mentally tough will come out on top this week,” Ianello added.

No. 1 USC moved into first place with a 600 (+24). No. 4 Duke sits in second place with a 602 (+26). Baylor rounds out top three with a 604 (+28). No. 5 Arizona (611, +35) sits in a tie for seventh place with No. 14 Northwestern. Emma Talley of Alabama took over the individual lead with a 143 (-1).

Junior Lindsey Weaver sits in a tie for 19th place with a 150 (+6). Freshman Krystal Quihuis sits in a tie for 37th place with a 153 (+9). Sophomore Wanasa Zhou is tied for 45th with a 154 (+10. Senior Manon Gidali is tied for 53rd with a 155 (+11). Senior Kendal Prince is tied for 60th with 156 (+12).

No. 5 Arizona will tee at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday for round three. The Wildcats will play with No. 8 Arkansas and No. 7 Washington.
