OSU's Markey earns men's soccer weekly honors

SAN FRANCISCO OREGON STATES Jalen Markey was voted Pac-12 Mens Soccer Player of the Week for competition during the week of Sept. 28-Oct. 4, the Conference office announced on Tuesday.

Markey, a sophomore defender from Seattle, Wash., helped anchor an Oregon State back-line that did not allow a goal in the opening weekend of Pac-12 play. From his defensive position, Markey also provided a threat on OSU set pieces during the weekend as the Beavers took on UCLA and SDSU, winning both matches, 1-0. Markey played 191 minutes over the weekend including a double-overtime winner against UCLA, as the Beavers opened league-play 2-0. Oregon States win over UCLA was its first since 2005.

This is Markeys first Conference weekly honor and the 20th all-time weekly accolade for Oregon State. He joins Mikhail Doholis and Timmy Mueller as the third Beaver to earn a weekly nod this season.

Now with two Conference wins under their belt, the Beavers sit atop Pac-12 standings for the first time since 2005. Oregon State heads South to take on California and No. 3 Stanford in week two of league play.

A total of 37 matches will be featured live on the Pac-12 Networks.

Also Nominated: Foster Langsdorf , STAN; Jose Hernandez , UCLA; Danny Gavin , WASH
