SAN FRANCISCO - The Conference office announced today Brett Cumberland of CALIFORNIA was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week for the second time this season and Ian Hamilton of WASHINGTON STATE was tabbed Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week for action between May 9 - 15.
Cumberland (Turlock, Calif.) played a big part in Cal outscoring Northwestern, 44-5, through the first three games of the four-game series that ends on Monday. In the first game of the series, Cumberland homered twice and also added an RBI single to score Cal’s first run of the game. His second homer of the day was a two-run shot in the sixth inning, part of a four-run frame for the Bears in their 16-0 victory. Cumberland went yard again in game two of Sunday’s doubleheader. His homer was a three-run shot that broke the game open, giving Cal a 5-0 lead in the fourth inning. The Bears went on to win, 13-2. He singled in his first at-bat of game 2 of the doubleheader, and later came around to score one of his three runs on the day. He now has 15 home runs on the season, which leads the Pac-12. His 47 RBI are also tops in the conference. This is California's 50th all-time weekly accolade.
