Pac-12 Announces Baseball Players of the Week

Arizona State Athletics/Oregon State Athletics

SAN FRANCISCO - The Conference office announced today David Greer of ARIZONA STATE was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week and Drew Rasmussen of OREGON STATE was tabbed Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week for the action during the week of March 7-13.

Greer (Scottsdale, Ariz.) started all five games at first base last week and tallied 11 hits, four RBI, and three runs scored in five wins, and hit the go-ahead home run and pitched two scoreless innings to earn the win at No. 23 Cal State Fullerton. He has a .458 batting average, a .481 on-base percentage and a .708 slugging percentage over the past five games and his play has powered the Sun Devils to eight straight wins, the program’s longest winning streak since May 2014 and tied for the longest since 2010. He had multiple hits in four of five games this week with four extra-base hits, including three hits against Cal State Fullerton and three against UC Davis on March 12. He accounted for at least one run in each of the five games as he drove in a run in four games and scored a run in three of them. This is Greer's first-career weekly accolade and the 106th all-time for the Sun Devils.

Rasmussen (Spokane, Wash.) went six innings in the series opener against San Francisco, picking up the win after scattering two hits and a run over six innings. The sophomore struck out a career-high 12 in the victory, surpassing his previous best of 10 achieved in his perfect game last season against Washington State. San Francisco failed to get a runner into scoring position against Rasmussen until the sixth when scoring the lone run against the righty. He improved to 3-0 this season with the win and has allowed 17 hits and eight walks in 25 1/3 innings. Rasmussen has 29 strikeouts and opponents are batting just .195 against him. This is his second-career weekly honor and the 77th all-time for Oregon State.

The Beavers and Sun Devils begin the Pac-12 season by squaring off against each other in a three-game series in Corvallis, Ore.
