MALIBU, Calif. -- Alejandro Reguant continued his success as he punched his ticket into the singles semifinals on day three of the 2017 ITA Regional with a victory over Loyola Marymount sophomore Gabriel Diaz 6-4, 6-4 for his fifth consecutive singles win in three days.
 
"Another solid day for our team and a great effort from Alejandro to put himself into the semifinals," Coach Shields said. "I thought he played a solid match from start to finish and took control of the match when he needed to. He has become a leader on and off the court and is setting a great example for our team."
 
Elsewhere, Jonas Maier advanced to the consolation semifinals thanks to a pair of victories on Saturday. Maier defeated Ethan Probst of Loyola Marymount 6-1, 6-0 in the round of sixteen, and then beat another LMU lion, Maximillian Kaiser, in three sets 7-6(2), 4-6, 10-4.
 
Carlos Hassey lost to Brian Berdusco (Pepperdine) 3-6, 6-7(4) and Igor Karpovets defeated Pedro Lamachkine (Pepperdine) 6-2, 6-3 in consolation singles matches.
 
"Igor picked up another win today and is starting to see some improvements," Shields said. "Jonas has picked up steam with his fifth win. His game is steadily improving, but more importantly he is finding ways to win without playing his best tennis."
 
The Wildcats will be back in action Sunday with Reguant competing against Arizona State's Benjamin Hannestad for a spot in the finals. Maier will compete in his consolation semifinal match tomorrow as well.
 
 "We definitely want to finish this trip on a strong note. This is a big confidence booster for our team to have a guy in the top four in our competitive region. We will look to keep it going tomorrow."
