Believer or not, college football is just 100 days away. The anticipation is already starting to build.
The first marker that the season is approaching is the release of college football’s many preseason award watch lists. Right on cue, the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation announced the 42 candidates for the Lott Impact Trophy preseason watchlist on Wednesday, May 19.
The Lott IMPACT Trophy, named for four-time Super Bowl champion Ronnie Lott, is awarded annually to college football’s best defensive player in terms of both performance and character. The award is unique as it weighs character and athletic output equally.
A Pac-12 student-athlete has won the Lott Impact Trophy three times, with UCLA’s Eric Kendricks being the most recent in 2014. Utah’s Devin Lloyd was a finalist last season. Six players from six different Pac-12 teams were named to the preseason watch list this season.

Before his Hall of Fame NFL career, Ronnie Lott starred at USC as one of the greatest defensive backs in college football history from 1978-1980. Lott was named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Century in 2015.
