Pac-12 Tennis Players of the Week - Jan. 24, 2023

MEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Alexander Hoogmartens, So., UCLA (Beersel, Belgium).

  • Hoogmartens helped the Bruins to dual match wins against Hawai’i (7-0) and No. 19 Pepperdine (4-3).
  • In singles competition, the No. 83 sophomore earned wins against No. 41 Andre Ilagan of Hawai’i (6-4, 6-1) and No. 31 Daniel De Jonge of Pepperdine (6-1, 6-3), earning his fourth and fifth top-50 wins this season.
  • Earned the tie breaking point against Pepperdine alongside Timothy Li to outlast the Waves’s Maxi Homberg and Eero Vasa 10-8.
  • This is his first Pac-12 Men’s Tennis Player of the Week honor.

WOMEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Madison Sieg, Fr., USC (Greenwich, Conn.).

  • Sieg earned four wins on the weekend during the freshman’s dual match debut for the Trojans, contributing to USC’s wins over Loyola Marymount, CSUN, San Diego and San Diego State.
  • Against LMU, Sieg earned a singles win over Eva Marie Voracek (6-1, 6-1) to begin her dual match career.
  • In her doubles match against CSUN, Sieg and partner Eryn Cayetano, a No. 20 ranked pair, took down CSUN’s Turchak and Zhytelna 6-0.
  • Against San Diego and San Diego State, the freshman made her center court debut, winning both singles matches and taking down a ranked opponent (No. 29 Solymar Colling; 6-2, 6-2).
  • Her 6-2, 6-3 win over San Diego State’s Tamara Arnold was the match-winner for the Trojans. 
  • This is her first Pac-12 Women’s Tennis Player of the Week honor.
