Jared Goff leads Cal to victory in back-and-forth game

Sep 27, 2014

One week after Cal suffered a gut-wrenching loss to Arizona, Jared Goff and the Golden Bears showed their resiliency. Goff led Cal to a thrilling 59-56 victory over Colorado on Pac-12 Networks despite trailing by two touchdowns early on and again coming from behind in the fourth quarter.

Goff threw for 449 yards and seven touchdowns on Saturday, and he took over when the game looked out of reach.

Cal was trailing, 42-35, with just over three minutes to play when Goff connected with Stephen Anderson for a 75-yard touchdown pass to tie it. After Buffs quarterback Sefo Liufau threw an interception on the next drive, Goff hit Chris Harper for a 40-yard touchdown to give Cal a 49-42 lead.

The Buffs tied it up once again leading to overtime, but Goff then found Bryce Treggs on the third play of extra time for a 25-yard touchdown pass before a field goal finished off the Buffs in double overtime. Goff's two consecutive drives in regulation to turn the game from a seven-point deficit to a seven-point lead were critical in giving Cal its first Pac-12 victory in 15 games.
