Women?s Soccer Continues to Show Improvement

TUCSON, Ariz. – University of Arizona women’s soccer moves to 5-2-3 on the season while continuing to show improvement and building on the early-season success.

The Wildcats dropped their first Pac-12 match to No. 11 UCLA, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon. In the loss, sophomore Hannah Wong scored Arizona’s solo goal off a pass from senior Jazmin Ponce. The Bruins outshot the Wildcats, 18-8, with Ponce leading the team with two shots. Junior goalkeeper Gabby Kaufman tied her season high of seven saves in the loss.

Among the Pac-12, Arizona is tied with Stanford in the goals category with 24. Ponce is in third place in the Pac-12 with 40 shots, averaging four per game. Kaufman is tied for second place in the Pac-12 for saves with 43.

Among the Wildcats, Ponce leads the team in shots with 40, including 16 on goal. Junior transfer Alexandra Doller has totaled 21 shots, including 12 on goal. Freshman Jaden DeGracie leads the Cats in assist with five with Ponce’s four ranking second on the team. Freshmen Haley Silverberg and Justene Kesterson also have goals under their belts. Freshman Lexe Selman has a total of 16 shots with seven on goal.

Up next, the Wildcats will travel to California to take on No. 6 Stanford on Fri. Oct. 4 at 4 p.m. and California on Sun. Oct. 6 at 1 p.m. The match vs. Stanford will air live on the Pac-12 Networks.

Season tickets for the 2013 campaign are still available with at a rate of $50, including admission for all nine home games. Discounts on season tickets are available for any Arizona faculty/staff, active military, seniors (55+) and youth. Groups with 15 or more can purchase group tickets for $4 per ticket.
