LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The Arizona men's golf team wrapped up its fall season on Tuesday with a surge up to eighth place at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate.

The Wildcats saved their best round of the fall for last, firing a three-over 287 on Tuesday to bring their total of 886 (+34). UA steadily improved over the course of the tournament, moving from 15th after the first round to 12th after the second round before settling into eighth place at the conclusion of play.

“It was a huge boost to see our team shoot a good number today,” Arizona head coach Jim Anderson said. “We talked about being competitive despite our position in the field following yesterday's round. Today was a fight, and even though eighth isn't our best, we took a small step forward.”

Senior Erik Oja concluded the fall season with his fourth top-10 finish in five starts, shooting an even-par 71 on Tuesday to bring his total to 215 (+2). That score was good for a share of ninth place.

Junior Alex McMahon posted a top-20 finish to round out the fall, also shooting 71 (E) on Tuesday to tie for 16th with a total of 218 (+5). Junior Brenden Redfern fired his best round of the season on Tuesday with an even-par 71, and finished in a tie for 26th with a total of 221 (+8). Junior Dylan Kornberg and freshman Bertrand Mommaerts finished in a tie for 77th and 92nd, respectively.

Senior Benson Liu, playing as an individual, tied for 53rd place with a total of 226 (+13).

“Knowing that we have guys willing to fight gives us hope as we look toward the spring,” Anderson said. “We don't have an 'off-season' if we want to get back to Regionals. We have to continue working now, and we'll see what kind of fighters we have.”
