Arizona Men?s Tennis Heads to Florida

TUCSON, Ariz. Arizona will close out its fall season in Sarasota, Fla. with the Dick Vitale Lakewood Ranch Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic, running Friday, Nov. 8 thru Sunday, Nov. 10.

The event is the only clay court college tournament in the country and will feature competition from Florida, Minnesota, Pepperdine, Princeton, Bates, Memphis, Florida Gulf Coast, and reigning national champion Virginia. The singles draw will consist of 32 players and the doubles draw will feature 16 teams.

“This is a great event that we have played the past three years,” head coach Tad Berkowitz said. “A lot of top teams are competing this weekend so it’s an ideal tournament for us to play to complete our fall season.”

Wildcat seniors Kieren Thompson and Fredrik Ask will compete for Arizona to finish the fall slate.

Thompson has gone 4-3 in singles so far this season, last competing in the ITA Southwest Regional Championships where he went 1-1.

Ask also last appeared in the ITA Southwest Regional Championships, going 3-2 to add to his 6-4 record overall.

The duo teamed up in the same tournament for doubles as well, where they compiled their overall team record of 1-1.
