Women?s Swim/Dive Begins New Year at Home on Friday

TUCSON, Ariz. After nearly a month away from team competition, the Arizona women’s swimming and diving team returns to the pool to host Northern Arizona, New Mexico State and Oregon State at the Hillenbrand Aquatic Center on Friday at 1 p.m. The meet will air via tape delay on Saturday at 6 p.m. on the Pac-12 Networks.

The last time the Wildcats were in team competition was at the Texas Invite back in early December. Arizona had an impressive meet in Austin as the men and women combined for 15 NCAA “A” cut times, while earning 17 first-place finishes.

On the women’s side, Bonnie Brandon and Margo Geer have paced the Wildcats all season long up to this point. At the Texas Invite, Brandon broke her own school record in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:50.70. Brandon currently has top-10 times nationally in the 100 free, 200 free, 500 free and 200 back.

Meanwhile, Geer owns the top 50 free (21.78) time in the country, while her 100 free time of 47.35 currently ranks second nationally. In addition, sophomore Emma Schoettmer has the eighth fastest time in the country in the 200 breast as she continues to be impressive through the early part of the season.

The Wildcats enter the meet with a 4-1 overall duel record with their only loss coming in a narrow defeat against USC.

Last season, Arizona faced all three teams in Tucson in a similar meet with the Wildcats defeating all three opponents. The big winner of that meet was Brandon. She earned a meet-best four first-place finishes. She won the 100 back, 200 back, 500 free and was part of the winning 400 free relay team. Geer also turned in a strong performance by taking three top finishes. She took first place in the 200 free, 100 free and was part of the winning 200 medley relay team.
