Men?s Basketball to Open Maui Invitational against Missouri

Men?s Basketball to Open Maui Invitational against Missouri

TUCSON, Ariz. The Arizona men’s basketball program learned Wednesday that it will open the 2014 EA Sports Maui Invitational against Missouri as the tournament announced the official bracket in conjunction with ESPN.

The Wildcats and Tigers will face off at 3 p.m. MST on Monday, Nov. 24, in the second game of the Championship Round. Depending on Monday’s result, Arizona will play either Kansas State or Purdue on Tuesday, Nov. 25.

UA has only faced Missouri twice, splitting the meetings but defeating the Tigers in an Elite Eight matchup in 1994 in Los Angeles en route to its second Final Four appearance.

In addition to Arizona, other teams in the Championship Round are BYU, Kansas State, Missouri, Pittsburgh, Purdue, San Diego State and host Chaminade. As previously announced, UA will play Cal State Northridge on Sunday, Nov. 16, at McKale Center in an EA Sports Maui Invitational regional game.

Arizona is making its sixth overall appearance at the EA Sports Maui Invitational, and its second under head coach Sean Miller. The Wildcats claimed the tournament title in 2000 behind an MVP performance from Michael Wright, and posted runner-up showings in both 1993 and 1997.

The Wildcats’ sixth appearance in the EA Sports Maui Invitational is more than any other Pac-12 school and will tie them with North Carolina for the most-ever appearances in the nation’s premier early-season college basketball tournament.

ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU will offer live, high-definition television coverage of all 12 Championship Round contests. Games will also be broadcast live on the WatchESPN app and WatchESPN.com.
