TUCSON, Ariz.- The Arizona men's golf program finished the first day of their home tournament, the National Invitational Tournament, tied for 7th place. The team shot 10-under for a score of 562. Sophomore
Trevor Werbylo rose 14 spots from a tie in 19
th after the first round to entering the final day of the tournament in sole possession of second place.
"Today was not our best as a team, but David stepped up to get us going in the morning and Trevor absolutely carried us in the afternoon," commented head coach
Jim Anderson. "We played patient as a group, but didn't convert enough putts. We were a little tentative and cautious when we should have been aggressive and fearless. The conditions are ripe for scoring and we had a good chat after the round to remind the guys of their capabilities on the green. Tomorrow will be a much better day across the board and we will clean up our mistakes so we can post a great final round."
The team made par 116 times, the most of the competition and made 38 birdies throughout the two rounds.
Werbylo is continuing his hot streak this spring season, with a phenomenal second round of play, scoring a 62 the second half of the day, the lowest single round score of his career. The Tucson local goes down in the Arizona record books as the lowest 18-hole total in relation to par, going 10-under in the second round. Werbylo tabbed 14 birdies and one eagle throughout the two rounds. The round of 62 is now tied as the lowest round in Arizona men's golf history with assistant coach

th lowest 36-hole aggregate score.
"Trevor is an amazing player and his ability continues impressing others," said Anderson on his performance. "The team and coaches all know he is a very capable and he doesn't surprise us any more. He is hungry for a win and tomorrow will be another chance. He will win plenty in his career because of his incredible composure and ability to focus."
