San Diego, Calif. – On Friday, Arizona wrapped up day one of the Aztec Invitational in San Diego, Calif. Leading the Cats in day one of the competition was
Kayla Young, who set a new PR in the 5K.
Distance Wins Two
In the ladies 5K, sophomore
Kayla Young finished first overall with a time of 16:58.28. The mark is good for a new PR and the No. 2 mark in the Pac-12 Conference.
Keelah Barger followed in fourth. In the 1500-meter run,
Jennie Baragar-Petrash clocked a season-best time of 4:30.82 to win the event.
Hammer Time
Grayson Fleming took the top spot in the hammer throw event with a mark of 64.60m (211-11) on his fourth throw.
Cody Dalton finished in sixth with a mark of 56.04m (183-10).
Waggoner Leads Sprints
Tatum Waggoner finished first overall in the ladies 200-meter dash with a time of 24.02. Freshman
Neysia Howard followed in 24.58 to finish fifth. Howard also clocked a time of 11.95 in the 100-meter dash to finish seventh. On the men's side,
Trevor Volpe clocked a time of 10.76 in the 100-meter dash to finish eighth. In the 200-meter dash,
David Egbo registered a time of 21.66 to finish fourth.
The Cats are back in action tomorrow at 9 a.m. MST for day two of the Aztec Invitational.
