CORVALLIS, Ore. – Arizona competed against Iowa in the First Round of the Corvallis Regionals. Iowa edged out the GymCats with a final score of 195.850 to Arizona's 194.550. Three GymCats earned season- and career-high scores.
"It was a very competitive meet and we knew that it would be," said head coach
John Court. "Hats off to Iowa for a great performance and the better team won tonight. We had a few mistakes that we would like to get back. The team showed a lot of heart and grit throughout the entire night and we just came up a bit short."
GymCats Shine on the Uneven Bars
Arizona opened the competition on the uneven bars, earning a score of 48.975 on the event.
Haylie Hendrickson opened the rotation with a 9.775 and
Heather Swanson followed with a 9.700.
Danielle Spencer showed her strength, tying her season- and career-high of 9.900.
Maddi Leydin earned a 9.850 and
Christina Berg anchored the lineup with a 9.800.
Arizona Sends Five to Round Two
The GymCats will send five individual competitors to Round Two of the Corvallis Regionals.
Maddi Leydin,
Christina Berg, and
Haylie Hendrickson will compete in Session 1 of Round 2 at 2 p.m. MST. Leydin will compete on vault and Hendrickson will compete on beam, with both GymCats rotating with Washington. Berg will compete on bars and floor and rotate with Boise State.
Heather Swanson and
Danielle Spencer will compete in Session 2 at 7 p.m. MST. Swanson will compete on vault and will rotate with Oregon State. Spencer will compete on bars and rotate with Iowa.
