TUCSON, ARIZ.. – The University of Arizona track and field program will travel to Los Angeles, Calif. to compete in the Mt. SAC Relays and the Bryan Clay Invitational. The Cats will open the Mt. SAC Relays on Thursday, April 18th with a 10K at 7:40 p.m. MST, and the Bryan Clay Invitational will begin with the 1500-meter Invitational beginning on Friday at 7:50 p.m.
"This weekend is definitely going to be one of the great relay carnivals in the county," said director of track and field
Fred Harvey. "This should be a great time for us, as we start fine-tuning our team in our event areas. People are ready to compete. We are three weeks away from the Pac-12 Championships so it is going to give us a pretty good view of what we have as a team … It is going to be a great weekend and hopefully we can keep the ball rolling and get ready for the Pac-12 Conference."

Last Time Out: Jordan Geist set the Arizona School Record in the shot put with a toss of 21.59m (70-10) at the Triton Invitational. The mark ranks No. 1 in the NCAA and Pac-12 Conference this season and is the No. 3 mark in the world.
Back to Work:
Carlos Villarreal will compete in his first 1500-meter run of the season at the Bryan Clay Invitational. The redshirt junior competed in the NCAA West Preliminary round in the event; holding a PR of 3:38.28 clocked at last year's Bryan Clay Invitational.
Jennie Baragar-Petrash, who will compete in the invitational 1500-meter run, and
Alaina Kautz who will compete in the open 1500-meter will join him in Azusa.
Puddle Jumping: Senior
Bailey Roth will compete in the 3000-meter steeplechase this weekend at the Mt. SAC Relays. He clocked a season-best time of 8:40.69 at the Stanford Invitational to hold the No. 4 ranking on the NCAA list and No. 1 in the Pac-12 Conference.
Harvey's Hurdlers: Freshman
James Smith and sophomore
Maksims Sincukovs will compete in the 400-meter hurdles at the Mt. SAC Relays. Smith opened his collegiate career in the event with a time of 50.29 to set the Arizona freshman record and No. 2 mark in the Arizona record book. The time puts him at the No. 5 spot in the NCAA and is the top freshman mark in the event. Sincukovs, a 2018 First Team All-American, will compete for the first time in the event this season. He holds a PR of 50.49 in the event, which comes in at the No. 3 time in school history.
Freshmen Are Neat: Freshmen
Neysia Howard and
PJ Austin will compete in a combination of short sprints and horizontal jumps at the Mt. SAC Relays. Howard will compete in the 100 and 200-meter dash, 4x100-meter relay and long jump. She set a personal best in all of her events in her last outing at the Jim Click Shootout. Austin will hear the gun go off in the 100-meter dash and 4x100-meter relay while also competing in the long jump. He holds the top freshman mark in the country in this event with a leap of 7.74m (25-4.75), No. 17 in the NCAA.
