SACRAMENTO, Calif. –Friday night saw five Cats punch their tickets to the NCAA Championships at the NCA West Preliminary Round. The night was highlighted by
James Smith, who rewrote the Arizona record books.
Harvey's Hurdlers Had A Night
Freshman
James Smith will head to the NCAA Championships for the first time in his career in the 400-meter hurdles. He finished third in his heat with a time of 49.88 to auto-qualify for the competition in Austin. His time is good for a new PR and Arizona School & Freshman Record. On the ladies side,
Shannon Meisberger set a PR in the 400-meter hurdles in 57.14 to finish third in her heat and advance to the NCAA Championships. Kraolina Pahlitzsch finished third in her heat to auto-qualify for the National Championships in 57.23.
Waggoner's Lap
Senior
Tatum Waggoner will advance to the NCAA Championships in the 400-meter dash for the first time in her career. She qualified for the competition in Austin as the first time qualifier in a season-best time of 52.19, placing sixth overall.
Roth's Ticket
Senior
Bailey Roth will advance to the NCAA Championships in the 3K steeplechase for the fourth-straight year. He finished second in his heat with a time of 8:39.78 to auto-qualify for the National Championships.
The Cats will compete in the final day of the NCAA West Preliminary Round tomorrow beginning at 2:45 p.m. MST.
