Arizona to Open Women's College World Series vs. Washington on Thursday Morning

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Arizona's opening-round matchup at the 2019 Women's College World Series is set.

The sixth-seeded Wildcats (47-12) will meet the third-seeded Washington Huskies (50-7) on Thursday, May 30 at 9 a.m. MST/11 a.m. CDT at the USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City in the first game of the WCWS. The game will be televised by ESPN.

Arizona advanced to its 23rd Women's College World Series by sweeping Ole Miss in the Tucson Super Regional, defeating the Rebels 5-2 in game 1 and 9-1 in game 2 to clinch its first berth to the promised land since 2010. Arizona is 5-0 this postseason and has outscored its five opponents 33-8.

Similarly, Washington earned its spot in the Women's College World Series by sweeping both the Seattle Regional and Seattle Super Regional; the Huskies have allowed one run all postseason. Washington is making its third straight trip to the Women's College World Series and 14th overall.

The Huskies swept the Wildcats during the regular season and has won the last six meetings between the two clubs. The two teams last met in the postseason in the 2010 Women's College World Series. In 2010, Washington swept the regular season series just as it did this year, but the Wildcats eliminated the Huskies from the WCWS with a 4-3 victory on May 5, 2010 to eliminate UW. Overall, Arizona is 7-1 vs. Washington in postseason play, with all eight meetings occurring at the Women's College World Series.

With a win, Arizona would play on Friday, May 31. With a loss, the Cats would play Saturday, June 1. Times and TV designations for Friday and Saturday's action is TBD.
