Edson, Thornton Earn CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

PULLMAN, Wash. (Dec. 5, 2022) - Washington State Edge Andrew Edson and linebacker Kyle Thornton each earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, the College Sports Communicators announced recently.
 
The 2022 Academic All‐District® Football Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student‐ athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All‐America® program separately recognizes football honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. To be nominated, the student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve and own a 3.50 cumulative GPA.
 
Edson earns his first career academic honor after posting a 3.97 cumulative GPA while majoring in computer science. The true sophomore from Snoqualmie, Wash. appeared in all 12 games during the regular season and tallied 15 tackles including 5.5 for loss with 2.5 sacks.
 
Thornton is a two-time Pac-12 Honor Roll selection and earns his first CoSIDA accolade after posting a 3.85 cumulative GPA while majoring in economic sciences. The redshirt-sophomore from Upland, Calif. appeared in all 12 games and owns 30 tackles with one for loss.
 
Academic All‐District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All‐America® ballot. First and second‐team Academic All‐America® honorees will be announced in late December.  
 
The CSC Academic All‐District® teams include the student‐athletes listed on the following pages. The Division II and III CSC Academic All‐America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022‐23 Divisions II and III Academic All‐ America® programs.
