- Washington State Edge Andrew Edson and linebacker Kyle Thornton each earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, the College Sports Communicators announced recently.
The 2022 Academic AllDistrict Football Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic AllAmerica program separately recognizes football honorees in four divisions NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. To be nominated, the student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve and own a 3.50 cumulative GPA.
Edson earns his first career academic honor after posting a 3.97 cumulative GPA while majoring in computer science. The true sophomore from Snoqualmie, Wash. appeared in all 12 games during the regular season and tallied 15 tackles including 5.5 for loss with 2.5 sacks.
Thornton is a two-time Pac-12 Honor Roll selection and earns his first CoSIDA accoladeafter posting a 3.85 cumulative GPA while majoring in economic sciences. The redshirt-sophomore from Upland, Calif. appeared in all 12 games and owns 30 tackles with one for loss.
Academic AllDistrict honorees advance to the CSC Academic AllAmerica ballot. Firstand secondteam Academic AllAmerica honorees will be announced in late December.
The CSC Academic AllDistrict teams include the studentathletes listed on the following pages. The Division II and III CSC Academic AllAmerica programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 202223 Divisions II and III Academic All America programs.
