Pac-12 cross country totals nine All-Americans at 2021 NCAA Championships

TALLAHASSEE , Fla. The Pac-12 totaled nine combined All-America finishers and the Colorado women recorded their fifth podium finish in seven years to highlight the Conferences showing at the 2021 NCAA Division I Mens and Womens Cross Country Championships at at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee, Fla. on Saturday.

Its top teams, the fourth-place Colorado women and fifth-place Stanford men, made the Pac-12 the only conference in the country with a top-five program in both races.

In the womens six-kilometer race, the 2021 Pac-12 champion CU women (187 points) finished fourth behind first-time national titlist NC State (84), runner-up BYU (122) and New Mexico (130). It marked the Buffaloes best finish since they won it all in 2018 and extended the Conference's streak to seven consecutive years with at least one women's team on the podium.

As a league, the Pac-12 accounted for four womens top-40 finishers and, since expanding in 2011, the Pac-12 now leads all leagues with 95 total womens All-Americans, nearly double the next closest conference, and 20 top-five womens team finishes.

Noteworthy on the individual side, a trio of Pac-12 womens runners picked up their second career All-America honors in Stanford's Julia Heymach , Colorado's Abby Nichols , the 2021 Pac-12 individual champion, and Washington's Allie Schadler .

In the mens 10-kilometer race, the 2021 West Regional champion Stanford men (236 points) finished fifth behind NCAA titlist Northern Arizona (92), which won its fifth NCAA title in the past six seasons. It marked the Cardinals eighth consecutive top-six finish and was also the 16th year in a row the Conference landed a mens program in the top five.

The Pac-12 boasted five top-40 finishers and, since expanding in 2011, the Pac-12 now leads all leagues with 82 total mens All-Americans and 17 top-5 mens team finishes.

Colorado's Eduardo Herrera , the 2020 Pac-12 individual champion, and Stanfords Charles Hicks , the 2021 Pac-12 individual champion, added second All-America performances to their rsums.
