66 former Pac-12 student-athletes on 2021-22 NBA opening day rosters
SAN FRANCISCO - The Pac-12 will have 66 former men's basketball student-athletes on NBA opening day rosters entering the 2021-22 season, which tips off on Tuesday. The Conference is represented by each of its 12 members and on 26-of-30 NBA franchises.
The 66 former standouts are a reflection of the NBA's 17-player roster limit, which includes up to two 2-way contracts that allow flexibility between a franchise's parent and G-League affiliate. Four former Pac-12 standouts signed two-way deals to give the league a total of 62 former student-athletes on full contract.
In comparing conference totals, the Pac-12 is third only to the ACC, which entered the NBA season with a total of 79 on rosters and 72 excluding two-way deals, and the SEC (76/70).
Based on per-membership averages, the Pac-12 leads all leagues with 5.5 per school and 5.2 excluding two-ways.
In addition to the former standouts on team rosters, the Pac-12 leads all collegiate leagues with alumni as NBA head coaches with five - Chauncey Billups (Colorado/Trail Blazers), Steve Kerr (Arizona/Warriors), Jason Kidd (California/Mavericks), Jamahl Mosley (Colorado/Magic), Luke Walton (Arizona/Kings).
The Pac-12 saw four players selected in the 2021 NBA Draft, including a national-best three lottery picks in Evan Mobley, Ziaire Williams and Chris Duarte.
There have been 72 total Draft selections (41 First Round, 16 Lottery) in the Pac-12 era, the third-most nationally behind the ACC (98/59/29) and SEC (86/51/28).
