Arizona advances to 25th Women’s College World Series after sweeping Mississippi State

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Arizona (38-20) beat Mississippi State 7-1 to advance to its third-straight Women's College World Series. The Wildcats scored seven runs on seven hits, with five RBI.  
 
Janelle Meoño went 2-for-4 and Carlie Scupin went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. Sharlize Palacios also drove in two.
 
Mississippi State scored first with an RBI single in the second, but Arizona shut down he Bulldogs and ended three-straight innings with double plays.
 
The Wildcats' offense exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the fourth. Scupin got Arizona started with a two-run home run to take a one-run lead over the Bulldogs.

 With the bases loaded, Bailey Thompson drew an RBI walk to add to Arizona's lead. Meoño then scored two and Palacios followed with a two-RBI single to give Arizona a six-run lead.
 
Netz retired the side in the top of the fifth and Arizona's defense didn't allow Mississippi State to score another run.

The Wildcats are headed to their 25th Women's College World Series. Arizona will face Oklahoma State to open Arizona's run in the WCWS.
