Arizona's Hope Hisey named 2023 Pac-12 Women's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Nov 3, 2023

ARIZONA’s Hope Hisey has been named the 2023 Pac-12 Women’s Scholar Athlete of the Year. The award, which is presented to one athlete in each of the 24 Pac-12 sponsored sports, was established to highlight collegiate student-athletes that excel in the classroom as well as in their respective athletic endeavors.

Hisey, the Wildcats' Tucson-native goalkeeper, graduated Summa Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science, going on to pursue a master’s degree in Legal Studies with which she will graduate in December 2023. With two perfect 4.00 degrees, Hisey has shown incredible dedication to her academics, becoming a two-time Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll member (2020; 2022), a one-time College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honoree (2022) and a Dean’s List honoree nine times, including the highest distinction twice (2019-20; 2020-21).

On the pitch, the graduate student is no stranger to success, having most recently broken the Arizona program record in career saves with 361, which ranks eighth all-time in Pac-12 history. The Wildcat holds the most starts in Arizona history (84), manning the goal in all but three matches and starting in all but one in her five seasons at Arizona. Additionally, Hisey has the program's second-most career shutouts (23) and currently sits fifth amongst active NCAA DI goalkeepers in career saves and third in career minutes played (7,688.04).

On the Conference side, Hisey has earned All-Pac-12 recognition twice in her career with an All-Freshman Team honor in 2019 and All-Pac-12 Third Team selection in 2022, alongside four Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Week nods (3 - 2022; 1 - 2023).

In her final season at Arizona this fall, she has tallied 27 saves, good for fifth in the conference, and a .727 save percentage to go along with four shutouts and a goals-against-average of 1.52.

Hisey is the 2nd Arizona athlete to be named the Women's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year (Sheaffer Skadsen; 2015) and the 31st Wildcat athlete overall to be chosen as a scholar-athlete.

In order to be eligible for the Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, student-athletes must be a senior (in athletics eligibility), on track to receive a degree, have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher, participate in at least 50 percent of the scheduled contests in the sport and have a minimum one year in residence at the institution. Each Pac-12 institution may nominate one individual per sport, and the winners are selected by a committee of Pac-12 staff members at the conclusion of each sport’s regular season. The athletics accomplishments of the nominees are a consideration in voting for the award.

A Scholar-Athlete of the Year is named in each of the Pac-12’s 24 sponsored sports: baseball, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, beach volleyball, men’s cross country, women’s cross country, football, men’s golf, women’s golf, women’s gymnastics, women’s lacrosse, men’s rowing, women’s rowing, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, softball, men’s swimming & diving, women’s swimming & diving, men’s tennis, women’s tennis, men’s track & field, women’s track & field, women’s volleyball, and wrestling.
